First National Library Committee Established
As a result of Resolution No. 55 submitted by Local 2669 Saskatchewan passed at the 2011 CUPE National Convention in Vancouver, a National Library Committee was formed.
The National Library Committee is now one of 17 advisory committees and working groups under the NEB.
The mandate of the committee is to advise the NEB on library and library worker issues.
Appointed as co-chairs to the committee are Dawn Lahey, Local 2329, St. John’s, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR (public) and Maureen O’Reilly, Local 4948 , Toronto, ONTARIO (public).
Joining Dawn and Maureen on the committee are: Francine Warner, Local 5047, Dartmouth, NOVA SCOTIA (school); Dorothy Peters, Local 1870, Charlottetown, PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND (academic); Debra Tozer, Local 2745, Moore’s Mill, NEW BRUNSWICK; Janna Munkittrick-Colton, Local 907, Belleville, ONTARIO (public); Joan McMahon, Local 500, Winnipeg, MANITOBA (public); Linda Lisa Jones, Local 1904, Yorkton, SASKATCHEWAN (public); Terrill Budd, Local 1169, Calgary, ALBERTA (public); and Denise Parks, Local 402, Surrey, BRITISH COLUMBIA (public). The member position from Quebec is currently vacant.
The NEB Liaison is Mike Davidson and the staff assigned to the committee are Joseph Courtney and Judith Cameron.
The first meeting of the committee took place from April 27-20, 2012. A second meeting is scheduled for the fall.
Maureen and Janna are happy to hear from library workers in Ontario to bring their issues forward. Maureen also sits on the Library Workers Committee for Ontario.
